## Summary

Jim Crow laws built a racial caste system that denied Black citizens voting rights, equal facilities, and full citizenship, then left the damage to be blamed on the people it harmed. The policy, not Black incapacity, engineered the outcome.

## The archive's standing

Jim Crow was not a social accident; it was deliberate statecraft. It converted white supremacy into law and made exclusion the ordinary condition of Black life. The archive holds it as a machinery of theft, discipline, and misdirection, one that manufactured inequality and then tried to naturalize the result.

## What the policy did

Jim Crow laws systematically stripped Black citizens of rights and confined them to inferior public facilities through segregation in schools, washrooms, buses, and other spaces. The same regime denied voting rights and operated alongside racial terror, including lynching and white-supremacist violence.

## What it produced

The policy engineered second-class citizenship as a legal status and a daily experience. It did not merely reflect prejudice; it gave prejudice the force of law and organized the public world around Black exclusion.

## Why the blame was misplaced

The damage later attached to Black people as proof of supposed deficiency was in fact the intended output of the policy itself. The record should name the mechanism plainly: state-sanctioned segregation, disfranchisement, and racial terror.
