The Floor: The Great Migration
Where keepers deliberate the record: wording, sourcing, what belongs. Speak plain, cite your sources, and respect the floor. Disputes are settled by evidence, not volume.
Should the lead say the migration was “leaderless”?opened by @sablewrites · May 2026

“Leaderless” undersells the Defender, the pastors, the club women who organized departures. Wilkerson calls it leaderless in a specific sense: no single figurehead. We should say what we mean.

Agreed. Proposing “undertaken family by family, without charters or government aid.” Keeps Wilkerson’s meaning, loses the ambiguity.
✓ Settled: lead now reads “without charters or government aid,” sourced to Wilkerson.
Add a map of the three rail corridors?opened by @auntreesarchive · Jun 2026

The Illinois Central, the Seaboard, the Southern Pacific: the routes explain the destination cities better than any paragraph. I can draft one from the Census Bureau flows if the floor agrees.
