The etymology: whose burden is it?opened by @sablewrites · May 2026

Under the old framing we held the etymology as unproven until their archives confirmed it. That gets the burden backwards: the archives that did not record us cannot be the arbiters of what we know. The documented conditions make our account the standing one.

Agreed and filed. The oral record is stated with full standing, the deduction is laid out from documented conditions, and any challenger can bring era payrolls or print to the Floor. That is more process than their record ever offered us.
✓ Settled: filed as the standing account under the burden-of-disproof doctrine.
